  • This autumn style

    After months of wearing vibrant summer dresses and adventurous prints like tie-dye and neon, many of us see autumn as an opportunity for a wardrobe reset. During this time of year, we typically return to back-to-school tailoring, checked prints and a more muted color palette. Often in autumn, the simplest outfits are the most reliable (especially considering that the weather can dramatically change within hours). We have identified nine basic outfits using a classic capsule—including a trench coat, ankle boots, a cashmere jumper and a heritage blazer—that you can always rely on come autumn and winter.

    All the items you’ll find in the outfits below can easily be mixed and matched, so you’ll be able to create many different versions of these autumn classics. And basic doesn’t have to be boring. You can mix brighter colors with the autumn-leaf color wheel that has dominated this season. A brightly hued slip skirt can fit in an autumn capsule just as well as a hounds tooth blazer and camel ankle boots do.

    Summertime means picnics, barbecues, fireworks, boating, and more.

    Figuring out what to wear to all those events, however, can be a challenge even for the sartorially minded. The comfortable business default of a traditional suit is both too formal and too hot, and the uber-casual look of shorts and a tee just doesn’t look as sharp as other equally lightweight and cool options.
